Arrange your contacts

Contact Editor works like an Excel sheet - all the contacts in your phone are sorted in a spreadsheet and divided into columns and rows.

In this post, we will learn how to arrange a contact with name or last name information saved incorrectly so that the address book in your phone looks more organized.

Usually, when storing contacts without any order or criteria, the following scenarios can happen:

  • You save the contact’s full name in the given name box OR
  • The contact’s first and last name get switched

One of the easiest ways to organize your contact list is to use the sorting feature on any of the fields depending on what part of your address book you want to organize.

The fields separate the contacts in your address book based on the contact’s name, email, phone, company they work at etc. You can see the example in the picture shown below.

Step 1. You can easily find those contacts by clicking on the sorting button in the Name field.
[Sorting option]

Once you sort out the contacts by the Family name in Ascending order, you can scan the Family name column and easily catch if there are any contacts that have the Name and Family name switched.

After figuring out what contacts’ information is saved in the wrong order, you can proceed to step 2!

Step 2 - This is where the Contact Editor spreadsheet format becomes so useful.

In order to do the Excel-like work with certain cells and arrange them in any order you wish, you can simply copy/paste the Name to the Family name cell and then other way around. But it's much easier if you add one optional field to the spreadsheet where you can paste the contact information (for example “Suffix” field) while editing other cells

Click on the Group Configuration icon in the Toolbar and choose what field you want to be displayed.

[Select desired fields]

Step 3 - Copy the content from “Family name” and then paste it to an empty cell (in our example “Suffix” field). After that, copy and paste the content from the “Given name” cell into a “Family name” cell. The last step is to copy the name you saved in the empty cell and paste it into a “Given name” cell.
[Step 3 explained]

At last, you can see the contact information listed correctly in their respective cells. After you finished editing the contact, click on “Save changes and the edited information will be synced with the contacts on your phone.
