Get rid of duplicate contacts in your phone

In the previous posting, we showed how to arrange contacts in your phone if the contact’s information is entered incorrectly.

Today we will see how to get rid of any duplicate information in your contact list.

In today's busy society, most of us live and do things as fast as possible to keep up with the fast-paced lifestyle. This can also make us store contacts in a rush.

With so many family members, acquaintances, coworkers whose contacts you have stored in your mobile phone, saving existing contact as a new one, separately saving work phone numbers and personal mobile phone numbers etc happens more often than you think.

This can lead to a phone full of duplicate contract phones, emails and outdated information.

With Contact Editor, you can easily solve this problem.

1. Duplicate contacts in your Google account.

1.1 Access your Google contacts via https://contacts.google.com/
[Google Contact App]

1.2 Find duplicate contacts by clicking on Duplicates in the left Menu. This will find and display duplicate contacts as shown in the picture below.

If you click on the blue 'Merge' button, the app will combine the information from the contacts and get rid of the unnecessary duplicated contact.

2. Duplicate contacts in Contact Editor

Google Contact’s 'Duplicates' feature will find duplicate contacts based on the contact name, and Contact Editor will find duplicates by searching for the duplicate information in your contact list and displaying any contact that matches another contact with the same information.

2.1 Access Contact Editor extension

2.2 Click on View>Find duplicates from the blue menu bar
[Contact Editor Menu bar]

and choose whether you want to find duplicate phone numbers or email.

If you know more precisely what you're looking for, you can exclude certain information from being scanned.
*TIP: Exclude “Home” as home phone numbers are often shared between family members or exclude “Work” if you don’t want Contact Editor to list the numbers that are often shared among co-workers)

This filter will display every contact that matches another contact information, whether it’s a phone number or an email, as shown below.

After getting the results displayed on the screen, instead of just merging the contact, you can select/delete/merge the contact information as you wish!

3. Undo changes!
No need to worry about permanent changes or deleting some crucial information from your contact list by mistake, since Google Contact app has "Undo Changes" feature.

In case you made a mistake while editing in Contact Editor you can always ”go back” and reverse any edit you made.

3.1 Access Google Contact app (https://contacts.google.com/)
[Google Contact App]

3.2 Click on Settings>Undo changes as shown below, and choose a time period that you want to restore your contact list to.

Just have in mind that Google keeps track of the changes in the past 30 days, so you can always restore the changes within 30 days since you edited your Google address book.

And that’s it!

Now your contact list is less messy and more organized!

And if you haven’t tried it yet - don’t wait.
A well organized contact list is just a click away :)
