Assign a phone number format & dial code to your contacts

Hello everyone and welcome to our blog where we post tutorials and manuals on how to maximize the use of Contact Editor and organize your phone contacts on iPhone and Android phones in the most efficient way.

So far, we showed you how to organize names of your contacts, how to display their business details when receiving a call or get rid of duplicates in your address book.

If you ever used Contact Editor, you may have already noticed how messy your contact list can be. First name and last name are mixed up, mobile and work phone numbers are switched, some numbers have a country dial code while some do not, and there is a bunch of outdated information.

Whatever the situation is - do now worry, we’ve got you covered.

Today we will talk about setting the phone number format and a country dial code!

Anyone who travels overseas, or has family and friends abroad, knows the importance of this function.

Sometimes, unless you save the number along with the country dial code, not only that your text message or call won’t go through the person you’re trying to reach, but the caller details might not appear when making or receiving a call from overseas.

That’s why we decided to explain how to use the Automatic phone number and dial code feature to store and organize your phone contacts.

Phone number format differs from one country to another, but country dial codes are fixed and necessary when dialing a number or receiving a call from another country.

“Country codes are a component of the international telephone numbering plan, and are necessary only when dialing a telephone number to establish a call to another country. Country codes are dialed before the national telephone number. By convention, international telephone numbers are represented by prefixing the country code with a plus sign (+), which also indicates to the subscriber that the local international call prefix must first be dialed.”

For users who have family and friends abroad, who travel a lot or go on frequent business trips, this feature will help them organize all of their contacts in just a few simple clicks.

Let’s get to it!

1. Log in to Contact Editor with your Google account (For guide on how to install and run Contact Editor, click here)

2. Go to the desired phone number Field (in our case, that’s “Mobile Phone”) and sort the numbers according to the ascending or descending order.

*TIP: If you want to edit only numbers from certain contacts (for example, your friends that live in another country) you can easily search for a keyword in a Search box and find only those contacts. To find all contacts from one country or area, just look up the dial number as shown in the picture below. For this posting, we will work on sorting contacts with dial number starting with 401 (telephone area code of Rhode Island).

3. After sorting the numbers, we will select all numbers starting with 401 and choose Automatic phone number setting

4. Choose the desired country code and format (we will choose United States dial code +1, and a number format based on the formatting convention (North American Numbering Plan), Area Code-XXX-XXXX)

5. All phone numbers are now displayed with the correct dial code and number format we chose, as shown in the picture below.

6. As the last step, click on “Save changes” to sync the changes to your mobile phone.

That’s it!

You can repeat this process for contacts from any country and assign a dial code and number format so you can make and receive calls from abroad without issues and quickly reach your friends and family easily, even when travelling.
